Bloggin time again....

I am making myself blog before I read the other blogs because lately I just check out everyone else's blogs instead of blogging. There are some new ones that have been added so it takes more time. Well, we might get some snow tomorrow. We had a few flurries in November, but nothing that has stuck. We got the Christmas lights outside. Looks good with the green grass. I don't really like snow. Only if it snows so much that I can't get out of the house and everything except the video store closes down and we get to go down main street in 3 feet of snow to get movies to hibernate for the day with. Anyway, Warren's Christmas parties were last weekend. I say parties because the company he works for had one Friday night and Sat. night. There are too many employees to have it at the Algonquin on the same night. I went Friday night with him then we stayed over. Mom kept the kids for us. Then Saturday we came down from St. Andrew's and picked up the kids and went back to the hotel. Warren went to the party because he was helping with the slide show and I took the kids down the street to see the parade. They got very excited about seeing Santa and Mrs. Claus at the end. It was very cold, but fun. Last weekend I went and saw Walk the Line with the girls from work. What a great movie, even if you don't necessarily like Johnny Cash's music or know anything about him.
The basement is mostly finished now. It's all painted. I like all the colors except the bathroom turned out quite bright yellow instead of what I had in mind. Hopefully it will tone down once the floor and everything else is in the bathroom. The flooring comes on the 20th as well as the couch from sears. Looking forward to seeing it all put together. I am taking next Thursday off to go and hopefully finish my shopping. Need to get some babysitter and teacher gifts. I have a head cold and the nightime tylenol cold is starting to kick in so I better get to bed.
Night!

November?

It has been so long since I posted that I don't even know where to begin. Congrats to Bonnie & Cam & Kelsey on expecting a new baby. The pressure is on for a boy, but girls are just as fun! We have been having the most amazing weather. Sunday it was 14 degrees, Monday was warmer and yesterday was 17 degrees. Lots of the trees are even still green. Hopefully this is a sign of a mild winter. This is day 3 of finishing our basement. It coming a long pretty good. The subfloor is down and some of the studs for the walls are up. On Friday I am going to Portland, Maine for our annual girls shopping weekend. Can't wait. This year we are staying until Sunday. 2 whole days to shop and eat!!! Halloween was fun. Lauryn was a princess and Brooke was a cowgirl. We went to a few neighbours then to our friend Julie's house for a little party that we do every year instead of taking the kids all over town. Who needs that much candy? Last Saturday some friends and their kids came over to carve pumpkins. I hadn't done that since I can remember. Maybe I never carved a pumpkin? I don't know. Anyway, Brooke missed it because she went to Nova Scotia over night with mom to see her mom.(My grandmother) Lauryn had a sleepover at Ben's house on Friday night and Brooke was away with mom so it was the quietest this house has ever been. Warren & I were watching a movie and everytime it got loud I kept reaching for the remote to turn it down, but then realized I didn't have to. It like driving alone and you still keep looking in the rearview mirror to check the kids! Warren played hockey Saturday night. They won 2-1. Warren took the kids to Kings Kids tonight. He had to drive the bus, so the kids like to go. Lauryn is doing good in school. Report cards come out on the 18th. I hear the kids coming, gotta go do bedtime and I'm ashamed to say, watch One Tree Hill. Night.

What's up? Try this again....

Ooops, hit enter after the title on the last entry and I guess it published. Well, here are some excuses why I haven't been blogging:
1. very busy, I know, lame excuse
2. have been using a different computer that doesn't have the camera softeware so that I can post pics.
3. have been getting ready to finish the basement which means moving 4 years of crap that has accumulated down there to somewhere else in the house or shed or playhouse.
4. Lauryn & Brooke started gymnastics on Monday nights
5. Lauryn has homework, why should a 5 year old have to do school work at home after she has been at school for 5.5 hours 5 days a week?
6. Gilmore Girls and One Tree Hill new season shows have started. Oh, yeah, and Survivor.
7. Mommy time starts after the kids go to bed and I just don't feel like trying to remember what happened that day, just want to zone out with a book or TV for an hour before bed, then up at 6:30am to do the exact same thing all over again.

Well those are a few things, I'm just on my lunch hour and I should have been putting laundry away or starting supper, but I figured it had been long enough that I have put this blogging thing off.
Have a great day. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

What's up?

School Days

Lauryn started kindergarten yesterday. I have mixed feelings about it. She did fine. A few tears this morning when Warren took her. They have to stay outside until 8:25 so I think the big kids were intimidating. She took the bus to her babysitters. I went over to the bus stop to meet her. She had some other kids that go to the babysitters help her and tell her when it was her stop. I was so proud to see her get off the bus. She looked so tired. Today she didn't eat much lunch. She said they forgot to let the kids eat lunch. Anyways, I thought she would be more tired in the evenings, but it's still hard to get her to bed.
I am watching Canadian Idol. Atleast Melissa didn't go. I hope she wins now that Suzi is gone. Gotta go to bed. The mornings are more busy now. Lauryn wants to get the bus in the morning instead of us driving her so she has to be ready at about quarter to ten to eight. Goodnight.

Waiting for Lauryn

Lauryn is due home today from her trip to PEI. Can't wait to see her. She'll have so many stories. Hopefully she'll dictate a blog entry for me.
Any St. George people want to comment on who will win St. George idol? What's with having someone from Maine in St. George idol in the final 2 no less? Also, last week I didn't feel like voting for Canadian idol, then my favorite, Suzi, was in the bottom 2. OMGosh, I felt totally responsible! Casey is cute and a good singer and a fellow NBer, but she's not really ready to entertain on the stage. Suzi rocks it! Comments, please! Who's your fave? Going to a bridal shower for a friend/co-worker later this afternoon. Went to see Red Eye last night with some girl friends. Good movie, not what I thought it would be from seeing the previews. Would recommend it. oh, and Colby from Survivior is in it! I guess he made the transition from reality show to actor okay. I asked Warren if he wanted to blog and he says no. I tried.

Crayons & Glue

Well, after reading everyone elses blogs, I thought of some more stuff thats been happening. Yesterday, Brooke had her first haircut. So cute. Didn't really get any off the ends, but now she has little bangs. I saved the little curls to put in her baby book. I thought that since she is 2 and a half it was time for the haircut. Lauryn got a few inches cut of too. I think she was sad to have it cut, but it's so hard to get the knots out every morning when it is half way down her back. It's still long enough for a pony tail. Her school hair cut, we called it.
I took her school shopping yesterday after the Cooke family picnic at New River Beach. We hit Winners and Old Navy. Founds lots at Old Navy. The Children's Place didn't have much that was cute, no good sales. Some new underwear and an outfit at Zellers. She got a Barbie backpack and lunch box. When we put the last thing on the school supply list in the cart I almost cried just thinking about sending her off to school in a few weeks. She is excited to got to school, but I am sad to say good bye to the little girl that she is. One those nasty first graders get a hold her all her innocence will be gone! Even some of her kindergarten classmates will probably teach her a thing or two. I don't remember a thing about my first day of school except that Jamie Ross cried and Wendy Anderson taught me the F word! I sat with her on the bus-she being a second grader kindly took me under her wing and proceeded to teach me that when I got home I should tell my mom to F off. Well, I got off the bus at my nan's house and told her. I didn't get in trouble, but I quickly learned that even though it was all over the girls bathroom and second graders said it, I should NOT!!! We have already been to the playground at the school because Lauryn wanted to practice on the monkey bars before school starts. She is always thinking ahead! So cute. She just called from Tim Horton's. She is out on the town with Nan, bring home some Timbits.
Blogged out for now. Good night!

Pins and Needles

Well, it has been so long since an update. So much to say. I'll begin with the most recent events. I have crossed over never to return as I was.............I now have a tattoo. You see I have been thinking seriously about getting one for about 10 years. I went to get one 9 years ago when I was in PEI, but when I got there the tattoo place had burned to the ground. Was that a sign? Lately, my friend Jill & I have been saying we're going, but our schedules were opposite and neither of us were available at the same time. Well, on Thursday she called me at work and said we were leaving after work to go to Saint John to finally do it. So we took off, her and I, Lisa McKay, and Sara Comeau-although Sara didn't get to get hers. We got there early so we were looking at the display case with all the belly button rings and deciced that getting a tattoo wasn't quite enough torture for on night. Yep, we got pierced too! Something else I had considered until Paula told me how excruciating it was when she got hers! However after seeing Jill & Lisa go through with it I didn't want to miss out. Well, it was quite a night. When we went to talk to the tattoo guy he didn't really look familiar at first. Then Jill asked him is name and how old he was and I realized it was a guy I had gone to the banquet with at summer camp in Maine when we were kids. He looks waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay different now. Long hair, lots, lots, lots. of tattoos everywhere-his arms & legs were covered, those ear things that stretch your lobes out. Wow! Jill went first and was really stressed and almost wanted to leave. Then he started and she didn't mind it a bit. Then it was my turn. Not at all what I was expecting. Not too bad, just and annoying pain, not pain pain. A little bit worse on the outline. The piercing actually hurt more, but only about 3 seconds. Everything is healing nicely. Oh, I forgot to say the tattoo is a dragonfly, blue and purple in the wings, black outline, he did some shading too so it looks kinda like it just landed on my back. It's right around my shoulder blade. I like it. I'm glad I finally went through with it.
In other news, let me see, what else have we been up to? A couple of weeks ago mom & Syd went away so they let us use the cottage over the long weekend. We took the jetskis over to Scouts Camp beach for a picnic, roasted hot dogs. Then we went up the river and docked behind the Credit Union and walked up to Pete's for and icecream. It was a very hot day, perfect for being on the water. On the way back, Brooke, who was on with me , fell asleep. I can't imagine falling asleep on a jetski, but Lauryn has done it too. She was sitting in front of me so I supported her with one arm and drove with the other.
We are getting ready for Lauryn's birthday party on Tuesday. We're just having a small one this year. Usually she has 8 or 10 kids over, there was a major baby boom the year she was born in St. George. She's going to PEI on Wednesday with her friend Meagan so we told her that was instead of a great big party. Still, she's having Meagan & Caitlin & Ben over for a BBQ, icecream cake and a bon fire on Tuesday night.
Brooke is such a night owl, she never gets tired! I wish she could bottle up her energy and give me some. I think my body is lacking something, I so tired all the time. I used to have a lot more energy. Now I am rambling on, I am starting to get a head cold so I took some Tylenol cold Nighttime so I thinK is starting to affect/effect? my thought process.
Time to go read the other blogs. I hope they are updated. Darn, the dryer just beeped, I will have to go turn that off and fold clothes. DOH!!!

Back to Work

Last Wednesday night I hurt my back while I was taking the garbage out and cleaning up the basement. Thursday I went to work, but by the end of the day I couldn't get up out of my chair. So my boss drove me and my van over to the babysitters to get the kids and then took us home because Warren was in Saint John. I went down to Blacks Harbour to outpatients and the doctor put me off work for TWO WEEKS. I was in a lot of pain, but I didn't expect it to hurt for 2 weeks, so today I went to my doc and got a note saying I could return to work. So it wasn't exactly perfect timing with a 10 year reunion on the weekend, but I managed to feel better by resting all day Friday and part of Sat. in between events. Had fun at the reunion. A little disappointed that I didn't get to talk to everyone, but still pretty good. I managed to stay up late Sat. nite. I think Warren was way bored at the dance since he doesn't dance (rythmically challenged and all), but he was a trooper and chatted with the other hubbys that didn't dance. Us girls kept going until the last song. The family BBQ at the beach was great. It's amazing to see all the little look-a-likes of the people you used to hang out with. A lot of work went into it and thanks to all the people who worked so hard on it!

Our Weekend

We had a busy weekend with Dragon Days-formerly known as Family Fun Days. Apparently, Saint George slayed a dragon to save a princess, hence the name. Lauryn and Brooke were in the Little People's Parade. They both dressed in cute little sun dresses from Auntie Steph and Lauryn drove them in her motorized Barbie Jeep. There were over 60 entries. I think St. George is having a baby boom. Then Warren took them over to the Szemerda's to swim while mommy had a nap. It was wonderful. Then we just hung out enjoying the heat. BBQed for supper then headed to Tim's for an ice cap and some Timbits. Ordered 4, got 5 in the bag and she didn't charge us for them-the timbits, I mean. Why does Warren get served like that and not me. I think I'll make a recording of his voice giving our order and play it when he's not with me then I can get extra timbits!!!! Anyway, enough timbit talk. We had a little fire in the backyard with the neighbours and Jada and Leah. Jada played with the girls until it was time to go to the fireworks. We found the most awesome spot to watch them. The grave yard. We didn't have to worry about disturbing anyone. Well, I hadn't been up there for awhile so Lauryn & I walked around for a little bit until it got too dark. I'm gonna go back there during the day and look at the old headstones. Some of them are so huge from the 1800's. Is it morbit to like that stuff?
Well, Lauryn liked them, but Brooke sat the whole time in her car seat plugging her ears. Then as soon as they were over she closed her eyes and went to sleep.

Sunday the church service was outside at the Day Adventure Center(DAC). It was a joint service with the Baptist & Anglican. Good, but hot. We had BBQ at the DAC for lunch. Kids & mommy got hot & cranky. When we were leaving & I was putting Brooke in her carseat she reached up and grabbed my hoop earring and ripped it out. It was a good thing it was thin gold because instead of ripping my ear it bent all to heck. So we came home and put Brooke to bed while she screamed and promised me she would never do it again.

We made up and then went back to the DAC for the petting zoo and pony rides. Got some floggy dogs-fried dough. Yummy. Lauryn went on the little waterslide they had set up. It was so hot. Me and Brooke decided we wanted ice cream so we all packed up and went to Pete's. Brooke fell asleep with her cup of ice cream between her legs and her spoon still in her hand.

Then it was time for me to go help decorate the credit union float for the parade. Then Warren dropped the girls off so they could ride on the float in their princess dresses. It was a full weekend. Fun for all.

Now, this weekend is my 10 year high school reunion. Wow, where have the years gone? I'm looking forward to it. I don't know how I'm going to stay awake for everything. I get tired by 10pm now. The dance doesn't start until 9pm on Sat.

Speaking of bed, it is time so goodnight!

We're Back!

I'm just posting quick to say we are back from vacation and everybody has gone home. We had fun. I write more detail later and maybe post some pics. Lauryn and Brooke made some new friends at the cottages beside us in PEI. And please, Jeff, tell your poop story. Since Kristy has a poop story, Jeff could not be outdone, but it is his story so hopefully he'll tell it in his blog!!!

Lauryn's Day to make a Post

Here is what Lauryn is saying today:

I am 4 years old. I like scissors because I like getting prickle cards. My friends are Meagan, Ben, Katherine, Logan, Trisha, Hayley, Kelsey & Bonnie, etc..
I think school will be fun. I liked going to sign up for school on Wednesday because I made a house with blocks & it was fun b/c Meagan and Trisha was there & it was good that Tristan wasn't there because he would be silly.

Lauryn's Preschool Grad Posted by Hello

Preshcool is over

Last Sunday Lauryn graduated from preschool. We are so proud of her. She even read a little story for everyone. The teacher got the girls to dress up in princess dresses and the boys in shirt and ties. They paraded around arm in arm. It was sooooooooooooo cute. Then they changed into their cap and gown. I didn't realize until after she got her diploma that I had forgotten to put her skirt back on. I don't know if most people saw it, but I was in the front row and saw her flash some leg. I quickly ran back to the nursery and grabbed her skirt and I slipped it on while the other kids were getting their diplomas. I guess every grad needs a flasher! Hopefully the pattern doesn't continue in high school.
On Tuesday, Jeff, Elizabeth and I went to see Sarah McLaughlan in Saint John. It was a good concert. The Perishers opened for her. Elizabeth liked it, but I think she liked the security guard more! Just kidding! They were pretty good. The Rolling Stones concert in Moncton sold out. 72 thousand tickets in 5 days. Imagine sharing a portapotty with 72 000 people.
Yesterday the farmers market opened for the season down at the Day Adventure Center. I took the kids in the wagon. I didn't realize how heavy they were getting. Going up hill was a challenge in the heat. Cooke's (company Warren works for) had a kids carnival yesterday afternoon so we went down to that. Lots of bouncy castles and stuff. Had fun. Will post some of Lauryn's grad pics on the pic blog.

Mother's Day , etc..........

Well, it took a few weeks, but here is our annual photo of our breakfast in bed on Mother's Day. We started the year Brooke was born. It's fun to look back and see the changes even though it's only been a few years. I have also updated the picture blog. Just follow the link.

It's Warren's Fault !!!!

Not really, but kinda.....I finally sat down last Sat. to blog and there were some pics I wanted to post so I can get them from the camera to the computer and usually I can get them from the computer to the blog, but somehow they are stuck somewhere in between and I cannot find them so I gave up last week. Then on Thursday I sat down to do it because Warren was home and he could help me, but I started reading everyone elses blog to Warren while he did dishes (what a guy) and then it was time to get the kids to bed. Lately that has been an hour process at least. Warren and I used to watch Nanny 911 and be so proud of ourselves that we didn't have problems like that, but now sometimes at bed time I feel just like caving in and letting Brooke go to our bed just to avoid all the crying and screaming she does. Oh well, it's not called the terrible twos for nothing.
Warren let me sleep in today and it was wonderful. I actually didn't get out of bed until 12:30. He's still out with the kids. Now it's time to get showered. I'm thinking about taking the kids to see Madagascar. It' s been raining here for weeks and we haven't been able to play outside a lot lately so maybe a movie would be fun. Brooke has not been to a movie before so I don't know if she would sit still the whole time or not.
Lauryn's preschool grad is tomorrow. Also my friend Amy's babyshower. At the same time. Warren will take lots of pics and video the grad so I can watch it after the babyshower.

Just Kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll send my gift to the shower with some else.
Time to go....will hopefully post some pics in the near future.

Princess Earplugs

Every Tuesday night we have friends that come over to watch Amazing Race. Since American Idol has started again, they come earlier to watch that. Sometimes Lauryn is not yet asleep. Last Tuesday we got too loud for her so she came out and told me she couldn't sleep because we were too noisy. I jokingly said "We need to get you some earplugs." A light bulb came on in her head and walked away. When everyone was leaving I went in to cover her up for the night and I saw that she had taken my earplug comment to heart. She now keeps her furry heartshaped ear muffs hanging on her bed just in case it gets too noisy! She's soooooooooo cute!

Kids

Well, the kids have changed babysitters and it's going really well. They actually ask to go on days that they are not even scheduled to go. They have been getting to play outside lots and make crafts. It makes it so much easier to drop them off in the morning when they are not crying.
It is so surprising to me that two kids raised in the same house, with the same parents, doing the same thing, can be soooooooooooo different. I guess I always assumed that if I would have had a sister she would have been just like me!!! By the time Lauryn was 2 I could leave her in her room and know that if she found a marker she would not use it to destroy something. Not Brooke! The other day she went into Lauryn's room, got 2 markers, and marked all over her fish tank. At least it wiped off easy. Brooke continually surprises us at what she does. How fun and frustrating and time consuming all at the same time. See the pic blog for more examples of Brooke's art.

i'm sorry, so sorry

i'm sorry i have been such a terrible blogger. i didn't realize until now that i missed the whole month of february. the kids are semi-quietly watching franklin while i have a mommy time out for a minute. lauryn's skating show is tonite. we had a fun visit with grandma and grandpa. i'll post some pics when warren is home. i don't actually know how to even get them from the camera to the computer, let alone post them. lauryn says her favorite part about gram and grandpa being her was when nan came over and gave her the bambi movie. brooke says her favorite part was when she went to mcdonalds and gram and gramp watched her on the slide? i'm not sure if that really happened or not, she likes to make things up.
nan and pop come back tomorrow nite. lauryn is excited. we must get over and water the plants one last time. i hope i didn't kill them all.
brooke hasn't been doing very well with the potty thing, but today she pooped on the potty!!!!
we're going to try to get her back into her toddler bed tonite. she wouldn't stay in it when her grandparents were here-too stubborn to miss anyting.
time to go start getting lauryn ready for her skating debut.
i just started reading the purpose driven life. here's an interresting quote-sorry, don't know how to get this italics thing off.

"you weren't put on earth to be remembered. you were put here to prepare for eternity."

YUMMY

I made roasted garlic and it was so easy! I'll put the recipe at the end of the post. I didn't have any french bread to eat it on so I used some cut up multigrain bagel. Good!!! It has finally warmed up to a bearable winter temp. The kids played outside today. Brooke while Lauryn and I were in Calais, then Lauryn went out when we got back. Nothing much else going on except I have to memorize some more lines from my script. Brooke really likes pretending she's a cat. Always crawling around the house meowing and saying "pat me". Good imagination. Maybe a future in a travelling CATS show? I've been trying to teach her to lick her "paw" and rub it behind her ear, but having no luck. Here's that recipe

Heat oven to 350
Carefully peel paperlike skin from around each bulb of garlic, leaving just enough to hold garlic cloves together. Cut 1/4 to 1/2 inch from top of each bulb to expose cloves. Place cut side up on 12 inch square of foil.

Drizzle each bulb with 2 tsps of oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Wrap securely in foil. Place in pie plate or shallow baking pan.

Bake 45 to 50 mins or until garlic is tender when pierced with fork. Cool slightly. To serve, gently squeeze soft garlic out of cloves. Spread on bread.

Tastes good, but major garlic breath!!!! Enjoy!

long time no hear

sorry.....blogging hasn't been high on the priority list lately. Finally a Saturday off. Went to Paula Clinch's baby shower this morning with the kids. Joshua is a handsome little boy, lots of dark hair!! It's really cold here, and a blizzard on the way. I am busy working on our 10 year reunion. It's been fun reconnecting with some people who don't live here anymore. Also busy with rehearsal for the play in March.
Thanks to Steph anyone can now leave comments on the blog....oooops...didn't realize there was a setting to change! I'm not the techie one in the family. We're still trying to figure out how to post a photo blog instead of having to post them as an actual blog entry. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The kids are watching Dora. Finally Brooke likes to watch something. Not that I want her to watch too much tv, but it does give me a minute to collect my thoughts.

On that note, time to go fold some laundry!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Happy New Year everyone!!!! We were all out at Mike and Debbie's for the evening. We made it home just in time to tuck the kids in and see the New Year's fire works on TV in Halifax. Then we all slept in until 10am.
Lauryn says:
Her favorite part about Christmas was opening her presents.
Her favorite present was her kitar {guitar}
Her favorite visitors were Nan and Pop-sorry Steph and Andrew, I think you were a close second!

Brooke really liked her baby stroller, high chair and play pen from Santa. She loves her baby. If she can't find her she yells around the house "BAAAAAAAAAAAAABYYYYYYYYY???, BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?" She is quite intense.

The sun is shining and the snow is almost gone. We want to go some where today, but there are not many options on New Years Day. Hmmmmmmmmm, what to do.

Well, here's to a New Year and some more firsts for us. Brooke turns two, Lauryn starts school. Maybe some of Warren's family will come visit, HINT, HINT.....

BEST WISHES EVERYONE!
